Sophia Ponté (b. 1996, London) is a painter and printmaker based in Dorset, England.

Ponté’s paintings serve both as a diaristic account of her observations and as an invitation for us to consider our place within the natural world. Frequent walks spent observing and recording local environments are the starting point, from which paintings are then developed in an intuitive exploration of colour and form. Working in thin layers of paint that reveal delicate brushstrokes imbues her subjects with a fragile impermanence, prompting consideration of their fleeting existence. Her paintings do not seek to impose beauty or meaning but reveal the inherent value of what simply is.

Sophia received her Veterinary MB from the University of Cambridge in 2021 and is currently attending the Online Drawing Development Year at the Royal Drawing School.

Work available through Half of Venus.
